Problem analysis:
- These units failed Base Component Test – Verify BIST on clock devices 0,4, 5, 6 and 7 due to faulty BGA’s.
- Prior to BGA replacement, all cards were sent to x-ray inspection and there were no soldering issues found.
- Each BGA received a 7 digit code in order to trace them after re-balling.
- All faulty BGA’s were re-balled and placed on different units, but the defect was the same.
- After BGA replacement, the units passed all tests.
- ADVA R&D’s response regarding this matter is that the failing FPGAs have defective transceivers working marginally.
