Why does the Hybrid Memory Cube example design not generate in Quartus® Prime Pro 17.1 when configured with 8 Lanes?

Description

The Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) IP can be configured for either full-width mode (16 lanes) or half-width mode (8 lanes).

Due to a problem with the HMC example design in Quartus® Prime Pro 17.1, it does not generate when configured with 8 lanes and shows an error message :

Error: Failed to generate example design example_design to: <directory_path>

Resolution

There is no workaround in Quartus® Prime Pro 17.1.

HMC example designs will generate successfully using these width configurations and Quartus® versions:

• Quartus® Prime Pro all supported versions using full-width configuration
• Quartus® Prime Pro versions before 17.1 using half-width configuration
• Quartus® Prime Standard all supported versions using half or full width configuration
