USBblaster does not show up in Quartus

Hi All,

I've got Quartus II V11.0sp1 installed on my Windows 7 64bit system. I've installed the USBblaster and device manager reports it as being OK, but Quartus refuses to recognize it in the programmer hardware pull-down.

It seems the JTAG server won't start (it starts then stops according to the services manager).

I've been through the forum looking for fixes, including installing the standalone programmer (tried 10.1sp1, 11.0 and 11.1sp1). Nothing seems to work. However I did see it appear once, but that was very early on after initial installation.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Mark.

With help from Altera support I managed to solve this issue

    - Got a new inf file

    - Got a new driver

    - Got the error message: "Attempted to access JTAG server -- interal errror code 82 occured.”

    - I’ve turned my windows firewall off

    - I’ve turned my virus scanner firewall off

    - I’ve started a command prompt

    - I’ve went to the install directory of quartus and then to the bin64 directory

    - Typed in jtagconfig –serverinfo Server was running

    - Typed in jtagserver –start. A message appears that this should not be needed as, quartus start’s its self.

    - Started quartus, and now it was seen. Don’t know why but it’s fixed now.

    - I’ve turned my windows firewall on, still the usb blaster is seen

    - I’ve turned my virus scanner firewall on, still the usb blaster is seen

    - Between these actions I rebooted several times the PC

I have had the same problem this morning (Windows7, Quartus 11.1sp2 64bits)and I did the following procedure :

    - Uninstall the USB Blaster driver if already installed.

    - Unplugged the USB Blaster

    - Remove the directory USB-blaster in Quartus/Drivers/...

    - Copy the repertory USB-blaster from the Quartus10.1 to the location Quartus/Drivers/...

    - Plug the USB Blaster and tell install the driver with the path quartus/drivers/usb-blaster

And it works for me :)

I have same problem, but on WIN XP. I bought 2x BeMicro Nios II SDK. The 1st unit I used no longer shows up as a "USB Blaster" device. It shows up as a COM port (COM24). I can not talk to it using Nios II Software Build tool for eClipse, nor Quartus II 11.1sp2.

My 2nd unit works over USB Blaster port. How can I restore factory defaults/image?

    System: Windows 7 - 64 bit

    QuartusII - 11.1 SP2 - 32 bit

I have another solution not listed here, for those of you that still cannot get it working.

    /support/kdb/solutions/rd03062012_414.html

(sorry i cant post links, put http www altera.com in front of that link)

This support page here talks about a patch, but it says that the patch is *ONLY* for 64 bits versions of QuartusII 11.1 SP2. "32-bit installations are not affected."

The cake is a lie. This patch also works for 32 bit versions of QuartusII. Follow the instructions on the support page above, but when running the patcher, it will not detect that you have any version of quartus installed (if like me you actually have 32 bit quartus.)

Luckily, the patcher allows you to "install anyway" warning some rubbish about it not working and messing up your install. Choose as the install dir "C:\altera\11.1sp2" or whatever yours happens to be.

    Tell it to install anyway.

Start the jtagserver again. Voila :)

Worked for me after wasting hours of downloading every dll and ini and standalone installer version I could get my hands on.
