Symbol Generation with External Text Editor - How to?

Hi, I would like to use an external editor (Vim) with Quartus. I have successfully configured Quartus to use an external editor but I've noticed that with this enabled, It is no longer possible...

i think you'll have to script it. as you've found it wants to convert whatever file is open in the Quartus window
