State machine encoding

Could anyone explain what the encoding table in the state machine viewer is telling me or direct me to an Altera infosheet. thanks

The Encoding tab seems also self-explanatory to me. In a VHDL state machine, I have the state enumeration in the left column and the respective state bits on the right. May be you have special settings that make it look different. Can you show an example of apparently unrelated encoding information?
