Simulation Times Using Vector Waveform File

I'm having trouble using the Quartus II simulator, just doing a functional test of a simple design.

Once I've input the VHDL code in Quartus, I then choose File > New > Vector Waveform File

Then I plug in my circuit input/output ports, but the simulation time is only limited to 900 ns. It will

not go past this. How can I simulate designs with a resolution of only 900ns? I have important signals

that don't change state until after 1 second. I can change the resolution, but this has no impact on the duration

of simulation time.

I'd rather not port my designs over to ModelSim.
