Quartus II 10.0sp1 Web Edition won't load

I've had Quartus II 10.0sp1 Web Edition since October 1, 2010. I've used it a bunch since then. Now, I find that when I try to load it, it won't load. I look in task manager processes tab when I click on the menu option, and I see quartus.exe for a moment, but then it goes away.

What's changed since the last time I've run it successfully?

1) Time has passed

2) My original PC motherboard died, so I recreated the boot disk as a VMWare virtual machine

Please help me get this running again on the VM. Thanks.

P.S. I've tried installing 11.1sp2 on the Win7 host, but it can't find the USB Blaster. I'm trying that path in parallel, but no success yet.

    I have tried this twice with 11.1sp2, loading the patch, as directed in solution id: rd03062012_414, on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

    No change in the performance of the HARDWARE SETUP. The USB Blaser does not appear
