You have to ask Altera now if you want to download an old version of Quartus, they don't put them on the website any more. There used to be a path in the ftp server where we could find some old releases, but it isn't working at the time of writing of this message.
You can try and run the demo with a more recent version of Quartus, it is usually compatible. - Altera_Forum

Hi thanks for the reply, as i mentioned i tried to run the DE2_WEB demo. The .sof is programmed succesfully onto the board, but the software part, using the nios II states that it is in version 2.x.x but the nios II for version 8 quartus II is version 3.x.x. When i convert it, some errors come out

You can get it from the Download Center:

--- Quote Start --- You can get it from the Download Center: Nope. That gives you file not found for most old releases. Someone broke the links ages ago. I reported this to Altera but it still isn't fixed. Use this link for the FTP: ftp://ftp.altera.com/outgoing/release/ Mark. - Altera_Forum

It won't be fixed, they made it on purpose. I just hope that no one from Altera marketing will realize one day that the FTP server is still up.

Is this with Quartus 6? I've seen similar errors when the project was stored in a path that contained spaces. If this is the case try to move the project to a folder without spaces in its name.

I've checked it, it has no spaces in the directory and the project file name... This is using quartus v81
