Quartus 11.1sp2 -> 12.0sp2 RAM fit error

Hello,

I have an Arria II design that fits ok when compiled under 11.1sp2. However, under 12.0sp2 it cannot fit all the RAM into the chip. I figured out that in 12.0 it does not use any MLABs and runs out of M9Ks. 11.1 does use MLABs to fit the RAM into the chip.

I checked all the usual suspects as far as RAM fitting options. I compared the settings side by side between 11.1sp2 and 12.0sp2 and they are the same. I made sure that the paused RAM feature is set to "Don't Care".

Any idea what I could check next? On the fitter report, all of the RAMs have Type is set to AUTO.

    I would open a service request.

    Other than forcing some of them to use the MLabs's this sounds like a limitation where the tool should realize it's out of the M9K's and start using the other resource.
