Pin layout issues

I'm just starting off using quartus II with the DE2 board.

1) I've created a new project and declared the board im using.

2) I've made a new file, board diagram /schematic

3) added 2 pins, an and gate and an out pin

4) compiled, no errors

5) went to pin layout (right clicked pin-> locate in pin layout) but the pins i've made weren't availible for me to make a physical assignment to the DE2 board with.

This was apparently a common problem and our TA couldn't fix it but i can;t seem to find any topic on it so help please.

Thanks

Pins are usually assigned in the Pin Planner tool. "locate pin" means to find a pin rather than assigning it.

Which DE2 pins did you want to assign?

Did you try in the Pin Planner or Assignment Editor?

    pin planner, sorry typo above

right click on pin on my diagram-> locate ->locate in pin planner

I dont really care what i assign it to (any of the toggle switches and output to an LED), i just want this problem fixed

as you can see from the screen shot, my onto 2 pins x1 and out arent listed in the pin planner

I don't know how you managed to compile the design without getting the pins listed in the assignment editor.
