Licensing Modelsim Altera: A bad solution with an even worser help. After having downloaded some 400MByte of 12.0_178_modelsim_ae_windows.exe, which expanded to some 4Gig of files, an installer did run over. Starting the desktop icon brings a fatal error : unable to check out license file. Some environment variables have to be set, but to what value is not mentioned. The "lmutil lmdiag" turns up nothing. It would have been just too easy. A look at the altera website, self licensing center is a desaster. Tons of videos explaining trivial stuff that somehow doesn't apply. The whole starts with a list of computers and tools that are not existent. It is absolutely unclear what steps are to be done to get a license. The steps are non-intuitive.

The installer could also have generated the environment variables.

How simple was the whole a few versions back, a few clicks and the license was mailed...
