DE0-nano getting started

Question

In getting started with the DE0-Nano, I found the university.altera.com and the cdrom examples from Terasic very helpful, but still fell into several traps.

I documented my work, and described how to navigate around the traps. For those interested:

Thanks for the sharing. To add on - if I am not mistaken the 16.1 version did not solve the PLL issue in Qsys that was mentioned here: http://www.alteraforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53150

Just in case anyone run into the same issue.
