Can't Run Quartus II at all

Hi,

I've spent over 5 hours trying to get Quartus II 4.2 Web Edition(came with the book) and Quartus II 11.0 Web Edition to work.

I have already registered and received the license file via email.

The license file works for 4.2 but, I'm still unable to do anything at all. Everything is pretty much grayed out. The software guard is not found apparently and I don't know how to get it to work.

For Quartus II 11.0, everything is grayed out like 4.2 but, the compilation button is grayed out. So, I can't run anything at all. The license I received via email doesn't work for this version.

I also cannot "Begin 30-day Grace Period," for either one of them. They are grayed out.

Can anyone help solve my problem?

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and run these programs as administrator.

Please don't post anything related to the "Quartus II Software Installation and Licensing Manual." This pdf file is is 100% useless.

Thank you

-Sopha

    you don't need a license for 10.0, try removing it

    i would also recommend moving to 11.0sp1, 10.0 wasn't the best release

    Yes, I read that it is a free edition and no license required but, the "start compilation" doesn't work. I cannot press it but, every other button works.

    No, it doesn't work. I can only use the one at school. The only problem is, i regret buying the book because Quartus doesn't work for my laptop for some reason.

    This is definitely going to be my first and last product that involves anything from Altera.

    Thanks for trying to help me out.

    can you post a screen shot of the Tools > License Setup window? and of the whole Quartus window?

    i understand your frustration, but the problem can be worked through

    Ok here are the photo's of Quartus 11.0 Free Web Edition.

    For Quartus Pic 2.jpg, you can see that I cannot click on start compilation.

    For Quartus 2.1.jpg, this pops up when I try to create a new project.

    Can you explain to me what software guard is and how I can obtain it?

    Thanks

    Yes, I do have administrator access. I tried everything in my knowledge to run the Quartus but, it just won't work. I have ran it as administrator plenty of times.

    the 'start' button is inactive until you setup a project;

    you have to create a project, add file/files, choose a device

    [or at least a family] then you can press 'start';

    have you done these steps ?

    ----

    I saw such message: "can't open project - you do not have ..."

    once, when I tried to run compile on a remote machine, even having admin

    account locally, if it's your case create your copy of the project and clear

    'read only' flag;

    i was looking for a full screen shot to see if there was an active project open. since it worked on the school machines i was thinking OP had gotten that far

    something could have gotten corrupt with QII 4.2 installed. you might uninstall all Altera tools, look through the forum for cleaning out the registry, then install 11.0sp1 Web Edition and try again
