auto assign pins

some questions,

how to auto assign pins and make sure that if I re-compile the design , the ports will be assigned to the same pins always ?

Is there any crucial difference between quartus II v9.1 and 8.2?

    Make sure you use 9.1 SP2 or 9.0 SP2

    AFAIK the only way to make sure the pins do not change is to assign them.

    After you compile a design, you can back annotate the automatic assignments. The "Back Annotate Assignments..." option is in the "Assignments" menu.
