Adding Hardware to Quartus II programmer

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a design project for school, and i'm having difficulty programming a DE0 development board. I've looked at a few forum posts, and have solved some of my problems , but new ones have cropped up:

Note: i'm running Quartus II v11.

1. I cannot find the JTAG server service running on my computer, though i have run the application "jtagserver.exe" in the quartus folder on my PC.

2. When i try to setup new hardware on the Quartus II programmer, I have no idea what the server name is, and it won't let me add the USB blaster without it. Auto-detect doesn't work.

Thanks

you shouldn't have to manually run jtagserver.exe, so i'm not sure how to set it up because its typically done during installation. do you have admin rights on the PC?

if the USB Blaster driver is installed correctly, it will appear in the pull down in Hardware Setup. you don't need any server information

so my guess is the USB Blaster driver didn't get installed properly. to reinstall it, go to Start > right click on My Computer > Properties > Device Manager >Universal Serial Bus controllers > look for the Altera USB Blaster > right click Uninstall

then unplug the USB Blaster, wait a second, then plug it back in. point the driver installer to C:\altera\11.0sp1\qprogrammer\drivers\usb-blaster

or similar. then try the programmer again
