Last time I checked, you pay them a one off licence fee for NIOS based products. I think you must buy a 3 seat licence priced at $995 per seat, so $3000 and then that is it, no royalties.

Based on Altera&#39;s request, we used to license µC/OS-II on a per-seat basis but that complicated things especially when customers purchased some of our other components. Because of that and other reasons, we decided to change the licensing policy to match what we do with other CPUs. Specifically, µC/OS-II is licensed on a per-end-product basis. Each different product that embeds µC/OS-II requires a different license. If a product contains multiple CPUs then each CPU that runs a different binary executable requires a different license. The cost of a license is $2750 USD. We also offer a product line (i.e. family) license, a per-CPU license, a per-Site license and others. You are allowed to manufacture ANY number of units of the product that embeds µC/OS-II for the life of the product. In other words, there are no royalties. Hope this clarifies things, Jean J. Well, that may cause some problems. My project has five (5) boards each running a Nios2 on a Cyclone. Four of these are also running MicroC/OS-II. The code differences between each are small but the binary is different for each board. With your new licensing, the cost went from $3000 to $11000. This may or may not be a problem (I&#39;m not the money man). If this is a problem, I&#39;ll be forced to switch to eCos (or the like). Can you comment on the product line or site licenses? Thanks

I&#39;m looking to run multiprocessors in a system with different binaries. Again, the cost for our system will go up an awful lot from what I thought was the original license model. Eeek.

i&#39;m starting now with NIOS II developmente board , stratix II edition In this case altera allow me to use uC/OSII Also i&#39;m studying uC/OSII .In the kit ther is a Labrosse&#39; book about it . i like this RTOS but as i can read it&#39;s too expensive I want to make my compliments to Mr. Labrosse , because he&#39;s very cleever and performant man .I read his story in the book But if i will finish to study this book , after what can i do? My job is programmer plc and pc , and if i want to start to try something different , like embedded applications i will have too much problem , the first one is the price Mr. Labrosse , i know the job it&#39;s hard and expensive , but one question : Why UC/OS II it&#39;s so expensive? It&#39;s a pity , because if it was less expensive , may be many project programmer wil buy it and use on own projects . I'm performing a trade study for a new product we are under contract to build. After weighing the options, I concluded that uCOS-II was the right OS for the NIOS II / ethernet application. However, after reviewing the licensing fees, I'll have to look at Nucleus again or consider performing the work ourselves. I think the issue of price needs to be addressed before developers waste time working with a free eval bundled into the NIOS II Development Kit. Knowing the fees ahead of time would have helped - especially since the price changed from the last time we inquired.
