PQFP or FBGA

Hi all !!.

I'm designing a board with a Cyclone II, using NIOS, with SDRAM, SRAM, VGA DAC, and more..

I'm a bit tight with the pins involved in the design, although I could use a PQFP 208 pin, but it could be better using a FBGA 256 instead, the problem is that my board costs goes extremely high in my country, due the low technology that our companies are capable to make here.

The question is: Does somebody knows if the PQFP 208 & PQFP 240 packages are going to disapear early ?

That's my doubt, because I can't see more of them in a market offer.

Thanks in advance & Cheers.

Alberto.

Cyclone, Cyclone II and Cyclone III devices in PQFP packages are available even at catalog distributors in volume quantities. I assume, they will life as long as the device families are continued at all, because they are used in many designs for similar reasons as you have, When scheduling a new product now, I would go for Cyclone III, unless special reason are hold against it. Recent Cyclone IV (and I guess new families as well) won't be made in these ancient and electrically slow packages.
