NIOS2 9.1 SBT and Visual SourceSafe

we use VSS as our repository. I cannot seem to be to check in a project (source code, etc.), get the project (source code, etc.) on another machine, and just build and test. I seem to have to build a new project on the machine and add the files to the project. Has anyone successfully been able to do this? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
