tse & EPON

Hi Everybody,

I'm studying the ability to design an EPON ONU

In order to design the MPCP layer above the MAC, the MAC must forward the preamble and don't suppress it.

This is because the preamble carries the LLID information required by the MPCP layer.

The tse user guide mentions that the preamble is completely suppressed and there is no option within the register set to disable suppressing the preamble.

Does it mean the tse MAC is not suitable for EPON at all?

Is there any hidden option (my be one of the reserved registers) to disable suppressing the preamble?

Appreciate your suggestions

Thanks.

Don't expect a quick answer when you post a question during the week-end ;)

I don't know this protocol, but no there is no way to have the TSE send/receive the preamble on the Avalon interface. If you need that then you'll probably have to write a MAC yourself. What kind of information is supposed to be in the preamble and how is it coded? In Ethernet the preamble is supposed to be a stream of 5's followed by a D.
