serial output from a Nios on a De1-soc board

Hi,

If I flash a Nios II c program (e.g. hello world) using the Altera Monitor Program. I'm using a DE1-SoC board. Can I connect the UART to my host computer with a serial cable so I can send and receive data to/from the Nios? Do I need to assign pins to one of the connectors on the board? If there any documentation, I can't seem to find any.
