Problems Installing

Have just tried installing Quartus II (web edition) on an HP laptop (6735s) using Vista Business and ended up having to do a system restore.

It seemed to install fine but the next time I turned the laptop on, the ethernet controller had completely disappeared. As I don't use wireless but connect directly to the router this was a major problem for me. Luckily the system restore worked and I have it back again, but I need to use Quartuss II for my degree so would like to understand how to fix this.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I had to install it in safe mode, as it wouldn't work otherwise? Any advice appreciated.
