Precision of accelerometers

How precise is a modern accelerometer? Are there any scientific articles discussing how precise they measure acceleration, free fall, vibration and so on. Thank you

Thank you. Yes, I have programmed a code using the DE0 Nano. Now I am writing a bit around how it actual works.

It is cool to se how everything is connected and how the tecnology really is built up from scratch ;)
