NIOS II - Exception vector

Hallo together,

could someone explain me what the exception vector of nios ii means?

and how could i produce such an exception in my software?

in the handbook is written, that a interrupt is also an exception. but when i configure an interrupt, i define a specific isr for it! what is in that case the purpose of the exception vector?
