12 years agoI use all possible combinations;
- Windows XP - Windows 7 - Linux (Centos 6.4) - Quartus Subscription Edition - Quartus Web Edition - Modelsim Altera Starter Edition - Modelsim-SE (direct from Mentor) I install the latest versions of tools (or one version behind latest) on my development machine (dual boot Windows + Linux), and have the other versions installed in VirtualBox Virtual machines. I only install one tool per VM so that I can be sure there is no problems with tool versions affecting each other. From a Linux or Windows XP host, the VM can acquire the USB-Blaster from the host, and all the JTAG-based tools work fine. I'd consider them all to be "fairly" stable. I can make Quartus crash, but usually its when I have combinations of SignalTap II, the programmer, and system console running simultaneously. The tools play a lot nicer together since about 12.1sp1. Cheers, Dave
