11 years agoInstalled hardware does not support device type
I'll be using Master Blaster (USB) download cable to examine/erase a program in cPLD chip P/n: EPM7192EGI160-20.
Previously used Quartus II and USB Blaster to program the chip, but Quartus does not not support EPM7192E for Examine and Erase feature. Thus installed Max+Plus II v10.2 on winXP and driver mblaster.inf as advice. Under programmer, I selected device EPM7192EGI160-29 but the error message "Intalled hardware does not support device type 'EPM7192EGi60-20'" appear. Can anyone suggest the issue. Thanks6 Replies

I think you're on a bit of a hiding to nothing here I'm afraid. You're using an old device only supported by very old versions of Quartus. Add to that the fact that MAX7000E devices don't support ISP JTAG configuration and you're ruling out the use of an USB-Blaster, MasterBlaster, ByteBlaster or BitBlaster I'm afraid.
MAX7000E devices need programming in suitable stand-alone programmer. See the altera programming hardware (http://www.altera.com/literature/ds/dspghd.pdf) datasheet for details. Note that the MAX7000E series is referred to as MAX7000 in this document. Cheers, Alex - Altera_Forum

I supposed the only solution to program and read back contents of this chip is with APU?

I suspect so, yes.

Hi Alex,
I have encountered same problem here. Other than (MAX7000E) EPM7192E, also (MAX7000E) EPM7128E and (MAX5000) EPM5128. I have been search through all info from ALTERA to read and write these PLD. Supported tool from ALTERA is PL-APU and respective adapter but those are obsolete and no stock at all. My question is there any tool to read and write these PLD? Kindly wait for your answer. - Altera_Forum

I'm not aware of any other tools, no.
Digi-Key do have the real thing listed in their catalogue (see here (http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/pl-apu/544-1244-nd/711453)) - although no stock (surprise, surprise). Perhaps you can ask them when they expect to have stock!? You could ask Altera what they suggest. Given Altera still stock and sell these parts - they're available to buy off their site - they *must* still have a solution. They may suggest what other customers of these parts are doing. Cheers, Alex * - by 'must' I really mean 'might'... - Altera_Forum

Hello,
I am facing the similar issue where the MAX7000E is not provided in the device family and failed to compile. Have you figured out the solution? Which SW SP that you have? Thanks, CC
