Honored ContributorYou must be generating .pof file. Check it, if so then go to convert programming file option in File and generate .sof from there.

Without it (in evaluation mode), Assembler cannot generate the SOF. Maybe you can try Quartus II -> Tools -> License Setup, and then point to the license file in your USB drive?
Honored ContributorYes, you should look into the license setup to check whether the license is detected. Usually, you need sentinel driver to be installed for the usb dongle.
Honored Contributorif it's a simple project, just use a web edition.
Honored Contributorwhy still using version 7.2? which is outdated and longer supported. You can try the newer release but web edition if license is a concern. But before that, please ensure you device is still supported. For example, Stratix GX device is obsoleted since version 13.1.
