How to setup floating license for a client PC?

I have a floating license for Altera software including Quartus II, Modelsim SE, Nios II. I setup a license server successfully according to instruction from http://www.altera.com/literature/manual/q...

telnet MAINSERVER 27000

Should connect, but you'll get nothing out of it. If you get a message about "Could not open a connection ..." then you've got a firewall problem or something like that.
