Help Determining Possible Damage to an ADC in a MAX10

Hello,

I have a question about a MAX10 based medical device that provides RF Field therapy and uses the ADC to sample field-strength feedback for closed-loop control. It checks and errors upon sampling a field strength below the low limit setpoint. The device has been generating random and intermittent errors in field tests.

Testing has revealed that our system has been exposing the ADC inputs to voltages beyond the recommended 3.6V max range. The concern is whether the ADC has become damaged or simply behaves incoherently after having been exposed to the out of range voltages.

    Hi MKirk,

    Try by enabling/disabling the clamp diode, we can limit overshoot or undershoot.See if it works.

    1. ADC is fine as per the report, The test for linearity confirms that. but according to datasheet page 5 Maximum Allowed undershoot to –2.0 V for input currents less than 100 mA and periods shorter than 20 ns.

    However Intel is not recommending or guaranteeing the performance at Absolute Maximum Ratings.

      Thanks Anand, Do you or anyone here on the forum have experience with latch up of the A/D circuitry when it is overdriven? Is that a possible result of over driving? I am trying to explain some very unusual A/D readings (intermittent and seemingly random) from some field data gathered on this design. It would appear from the data that the A/D circuitry temporarily locked up and then recovered.
