General Rant.. Cyclone V/Arria V/Stratix V naming convention

Ok.. Sorry for this, it's really not a question, but a general rant at Altera's wisdom in changing it's naming convention.. I don't do this often, and I'm not trying to start a flame war, just stating something that really irritates me...

If anyone from Altera is on this board, please let your marketing department know you really screwed the pooch on this setup. On of the nice things regardless of the family with Altera, you could always look at the part number and instantly know approximately how many LE's were in the part.

With the V series of family this is no longer true. You have gone to a meaningless A(n) B(n) D(n) number sequence that has no relationship between families, so now as a user, I have to go to the website to figure out what the heck the part has in it.

IE Cyclone V = 5CEA5 = 48,000 LE's

5CEB5 = 150,000 LE's

Arria V = 5AGXA5 = 190,000 LE's

= 5AGXB5 = 490,000 LE's

Stratix V = 5SGXA5 = 425,000 LE's

5SGXB5 = 490,300 LE's

In the past these names would have been:

IE Cyclone V = 5CE48 = 48,000 LE's

5CE150 = 150,000 LE's

Arria V = 5AGX190 = 190,000 LE's

= 5AGX490 = 490,000 LE's

Stratix V = 5SGX425 = 425,000 LE's

5SGX490 = 490,300 LE's

So just looking at the part number you new how many LE's the part had.. Yes now there are parts with more than 1,000,000 LE's, but if you had to change the name for something, change the Large parts to an A10 (for the million LE and above catagory..)
