FPGA to PC high speed communications

I am looking for the most simple method for an FPGA to send data to, and receive data from, a PC at relatively high speed of 5MBits/second. The way I have done this previously is by using a FT232 ...

I think, there are 2 different drivers provided by FTDI. Using one the device occurs as direct USB device, using other one - as virtual COM port.
