I am newbie with the DE10 lite. So far I could create the RTL, pass the synthesis (still with some warnings to investigate). I could also simulate it with ModelSim that was installed according to ...

Can I assume that you are using this link? https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=English&CategoryNo=234&No=1021&PartNo=4

If yes, the user guide mention that you will need to used Quartus 16.0. If you want to use the latest version, you will need to do the migration and study the flow again to run the simulation.
