Cyclone V Availability in the U.S.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is with the new Cyclone V availability in the U.S.?

We have been trying to acquire 40 Cyclone V's for a few weeks now with no luck, all the U.S. distributors claim a 20 week lead time for delivery. Our budget and final production guides require us to have these chips by end of October.

The Cyclone V was released for shipping by Altera in early March; so why is it so hard to get this chip.

We would at least like to have 2 or 3 right-away for development, but no luck there either.

From what I know the "Production date" has been moved back from August to more the December timeline.

You should be able to get your hands on 2-3 engineering samples, but you'll have to push your channel support person on that. It may be earlier silicon that the production silicon however, so they may not want to really support it.. (I don't know).

We have a couple of designs in process that we are targeting Cyclone V. One we had to step back to Cyclone IV for due to the delay in schedule. The other is still going forward with Cyclone V, but it's farther out.

    Hi,

well basically I'm still wondering what the intention was to announce the Cyclone V a lot of month ago with that long delay for starting to sample these devices. I remember that for earlier devices there were if at all 6 month between the announcement and the first devices starting production.

Don't know which marketing strategy is behind this Cyclone V but to be honest with start of production the Cyclone V may appear as "old stuff" as the first announcement was long ago...

    Just my two cents

The availability of the Cyclone V parts has been unfortunately delayed, but I can understand that as device geometries shrink, the reliable implementation of the silicon becomes an issue. The real information that I am looking for is device pin outs, so that I could really start looking at doing a board design with these parts, in the lower density of the family. I hope that the pin out information will be released sooner than later. James
