A lot of dev kits use the 88E1111. The phys should work just fine with that core, as long as the mac interface is supported, and RGMII is. If you're connecting this to a nios with an OS, you just need to be sure you have a supported driver. I'm sure there's one for the 88E1111, but I can't speak for the Micrel. There probably is support, and if not, you can write your own driver if necessary.
