Cyclone II 'A' devices

I am using an old version of Quartus (5.1 SPS2.14) and want to use the updated Cyclone II series of device with the A option.

ie devices like

EP2C15AF256I8

EP2C20AF256i8

I don’t want to upgrade to latest version of Quartus II since I will have to go through some requalification process.

The question is can the older version of Quartus II 5.1 generate a compatible sof file based on the older device names file for the newer devices?

    wizard,

    the A devices have a faster POR time so some of the circuitry might be different. i suggest you recompile. if you use an old POF and run into problems, the first thing Altera will ask is which version of Quartus you are using.
