Changing Timeout Period - Interval Timer

Hello, I would like to ask, if any of you have tried to modify the Timeout Period using an interval timer in a Nios II Application. My application stops after I modify the period registers...

Yes I have configured it with

fixed period - off

Now I have tested it and if I increase the period looks like is working, but if I reduce the period the interrupt looks out of control
