You can always make your own avalon master (http://www.altera.com/support/examples/nios2/exm-avalon-mm.html) and/or avalon slave (http://www.altera.com/support/examples/nios2/exm-avalon-memory-slave.html) modules that form a bridge from the Avalon bus to your own bus.
