An advice is needed

Hi,

I intend to make an OFDM demodulator & MPEG4 decoder in a single chip for a diploma project. Can you refer me which FPGA maybe suitable for a such project (the point is to be not very expensive).

Thanks

I have no clue how big MPEG4 decoding will be in an FPGA but I seem to recall OFDM wasn't too large. I'll take a stab in the dark and say maybe a Cyclone III 120 device would be large enough but I would wait for others with MPEG4 experience to chime in. Another factor is what interface do you plan on using the move the data in and out of the FPGA and what kind of throughput are you looking for? The higher end FPGAs will have more capabilities as you know so if you are doing something bleeding edge you may need Arria or Stratix.

Here is a Cyclone III board with a 120 kLE device on it to give you an idea of the pricing: http://www.altera.com/products/devkits/altera/kit-cyc3.html
