Did anybody make a migration from some Altera's devices to Atmel ULCs? Is there any reason for that? Or to configurate CPLDs & FPGAs is cheaper rather than to produce ASIC based on Altera's netlists at a production stage?

The best way to understand this is to engage with the local sales reps involved and work up the expected situation you anticipate encountering. The benefiy of staying in CPLD's and or FPGA's is in the 'oops' and 'could we add another feature' benefit that reprogrammable logic provide. The benefit that HardCopy provides is in planning the transition into high volume and later on, out of high volume (back into the FPGA). With HardCopy, you maintain the exact same footprint on the the board, making that transition easier in the manufacturing environment. Avatar
