Alt_lvds and frame sync

Im working with an AFE5808 where there are 8 SERDES channels 12bits wide with a frame clock of 40MHz and DDR data clock of 240MHz. I'm trying to sync the frames, I've tried to use the alt_lvds data_align_reset port but it seems to have no effect. Instead I wrote up some code that will pulse the bitslip port but this seems uncessary. Did Altera really not provide an internal way for the alt_lvds block to sync each word to the frame clock?
