jpeg2000 coder implementation on de2

hi everybody, i'm working on my project in jpeg2000 encoder. My task is loading an image from computer into de2 kit (store image in sdram, i think that) via serrial port, compress it and then transfer back to pc for viewing. But i'm totally a beginner in using de2 kit so can anyone help me in communicating between computer and de2 board. Thank you very much!
