Getting to know a Cyclone development kit

Hi.

Could anyone provide me tips/guidelines on the practices for communication to development/starter kits?

I have a Cyclone III development kit with me.

How do I feed it input patterns? How do I monitor output patterns?

What are the HSMC debug header breakout card... is this the solution?

What are loopback cards? What are the HSMC ports?

Any kind of intro other than the first tutorials provided is appreciated.

    Firstable, You should try with SignalTap II, this is an excellent tool. (logic analizer.). another way is the in-system memory content editor

    the Cyclone III is connectors limited, off course if you dont' want to use the graphics LCD.

    You will also want to poke around with the Signal Probes as well. Very handy for applying signal inputs over JTAG. There are LEDs that you can use for very basic indicators.
