DK-START-3C25N only work with HSMC connector?

Hi I would like to know if this Dev Kit needs the HSMC connector or if it possible to work with out it. When do I need a HSMC connector?

Is this Dev Kit include a Windows software?

    you need an HSMC card if you want to add additional features to the kit. check the Altera website under devkits to see available daughter cards.

    the Cyclone III starter kit doesn't come with a Quartus II software license. you should use Quartus II web edition.
