16 years ago --- Quote Start --- ------------------------- Hi I've been reading the same threads as well and experiencing the same problems--Not detecting ByteBlaster cable! However, one of the threads mentioned about going into the regEdit and changing the dependOnService value from "parport" to "NmPar". This did work and now my Quartus see's ByteBlaster But dont hold your breath too long, because now Quartus is reporting "Kernal Mode driver not installed" ??? Obviously, there's a driver which needs to be installed. So now I going to google it, and if its out there, then I'm going to down load it. I will post my findings soon. --- Quote End --- Hi Tried to Google this 'Kernal Mode driver', but apparantely the 'kernal Mode driver,' controls quite alot of things your PC needs to run, and if you get the wrong one, then it could damage your PC! The good news is that Ive now got Quartus/BytBlaster fully working. However, thats because Quartus is now running on an old Laptop running windows98 16bit. The only thing I done was changed 'parport' to 'NmPar' in the windows redistry on the old Laptop. The old Laptop with it's the standard legacy parallel printer port as configured to LPT, so there was no need to change any of that. The only conclusion I can come up with, is that Windows98 runs on 16bit, where as Windows XP runs on 32bit. Now, even though my new Laptop is running Windows-XP - 32bit, Quartus manages to see BytBlaster-II but report's 'Kernal Mode drive error'. I thinks its because these 'Kernal Mode drivers' source codes are specific as per 16bit or 32bit. And if you have purchased the MAX plus II 9.2 and Quartus Ver6.0, then you are more likely to be sucessful in running those legacy programs on Wndows98. However, If you've installed these legacy programs on WindowsXP, Vista ect... then you will get problems getting them to run. As I said above, this only my conclusions and Quartus/BytBlaster are working fine on Windows98. I hope this helps.
