Why does an Intel Agilex® 7 device fail during configuration after updating the Intel® Quartus® Prime Software version to version 21.3 or later?

Description

If the following conditions are met, an Intel Agilex® 7 device may fail during configuration:

• The Intel Agilex® 7 device design project is updated from the Intel® Quartus Prime® Pro Editon Software v21.2 or earlier to v21.3 or later
• PMBus Master is used in VID mode in the Configuration setting under Device and Pin Options
• Auto Discovery option is used in Voltage output format in the Power Management & VID setting under Device and Pin Options

The Auto Discovery option is no longer supported in Intel Agilex® 7 devices since Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software v21.3.  When the Auto Discovery option is used, and the Intel® Quartus Prime® Pro Edition Software version is updated from v21.2 or earlier to v21.3, or later,  the following message is displayed in the System Message window:

Info(22747): Value AUTO_DISCOVERY for QSF Assignment PWRMGT_VOLTAGE_OUTPUT_FORMAT is not supported. Hence changing the value to LINEAR_FORMAT 

Resolution

Set the Power Management & VID settings based on the power regulator device.
