Why does Agilex™ 7 device Remote System Update fail to transition from one image to another?

Description

In the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.4, you might see Remote System Update (RSU) fails to transition from the bitstream (.rpd) generated in Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.4 to an older image (e.g. bitstream (.rpd) generated in Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.3 or earlier) when using Agilex™ 7 devices.

For HPS devices, the RSU update cannot work correctly after an HPS cold reset, regardless of the bitstream version.

Affected devices are Agilex™ 7 FPGA —AGFA014R24A and AGFB014R24A ES devices.

Resolution

To work around this problem, download and install the following patch 0.03 for Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.4:

• Readme for Intel Quartus Prime Software Patch 0.03 (.txt)

This problem is fixed beginning with the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.4.
