Why do Intel Agilex® 7 FPGAs fail to recover after being configured with a corrupted .sof file over JTAG?

Description

Due to a known problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.2, you might observe that Intel Agilex® devices fail to configure with a known-to-work .sof file after being configured with a manually corrupted .sof file. 

Resolution

To work around this problem, power cycle the FPGA to recover from the programming error.
