RS232 communication with the DE2 board

hello

i'm trying to use rs232 communication. i didn't wanted to use the SOPC builder (because i didn't want to use NIOS processor) so i'm using the IP core file for the rs232 compenent.

my question is if any other initialisations are needed, or i can use the RS232 IP core as is (assuming my input is UART_RXD and output is UART_TXD)
