What happens when the Quartus II bundled with Stratix III board license expires?

Dear all,

I am considering buying the dsp development kit, stratix iii edition (dk-dsp-3sl150n)

which ships with a 1-year license of the Quartus II DKE Edition software. As this FPGA is not supported by the free Quartus II Web Edition Software, what happens when the 1-year license expires? Can I keep using the software without updates, or I will have to throw the board away if I choose not to renew Quartus II (a cost of about $3000)?

    normally a 1 year license is 1 year of maintenance, meaning software updates

    Dear thepancake,

    Thank you for the reply. I seems that the bundled DKE Quartus II version stops working after 1 year and then you have to purchase a full Quartus license which never expires, but gives you another year of updates (unless you renew to get more updates).

    interesting, that's about what i understand after reading the Stratix III Dev Kit User Guide
