Hi,
in some of my former project I also used the DSE. All of my failing paths (~ 5000) were located in one "small" part of the design. I setup a separate project for the small block standalone and run the DSE. I could improve my fmax significantly. After timing closure I imported the block back into my main project. This way has some advantages.
1. Shorter runtimes
2. Easier for the tool to find a solution ( if possible)
Of course depends on the design, but maybe you can try it.
