Stratix III EP3SE260F1152C2N won't compile in Quartus 2 Web Version 10.1

Hello guys,

I'm using Quartus II Web Version 10.1 which supposedly supports Stratix III devices. Strangely enough, after compiling, I got an error saying there is no such device. Which totally makes no sense. I am using a Stratix III EP3SE260F1152C2N device. Has anyone else run into this problem? Also, does anyone else find it weird that the CD does not include the license for Quartus? I wanted to use the Subscription Version on the CD but after installation it told me to get a license online which costs like 2000 bucks. Am I not entitled to get a free license? Is there a work-around for this? Is there a free version of Quartus II that can run Stratix III EP3SE260F1152C2N ? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Beanz

    Hi Beanz,

Do you have a chance to try with other Quartus II version ie 13.1 to see if similar issue remains?

    Hello Nic. :)

I did a quick check on 13.1 and found that the Web Version does not support Stratix III devices.

I did try it on 9.1 and got the same error message. My guess is that the Web Version only supports a limited set of Stratix III devices.

Problem is, why would I need to buy a 2000 dollar license (Quartus II Subscription Version) for something that should've been included in the DVD to begin with?

I thought the license would come along with the FPGA board. Is there any way around buying the license? I really appreciate your help! :)
